Coconut oil, lauded for its seemingly endless list of benefits, rapidly rose to fame within the health industry. However, unfortunately as is always the case with tall poppies, scrutiny has led to questioning the legitimacy of this prodigy product. Well at Cohere, there are no ifs or buts about it. When it comes to coconut oil, we say, oil us up.

Frankly, we can’t get enough of it. In a culinary setting, coconut oil is a fabulous alternative to more traditional oils and can also be used as an additive in your raw treats. And whilst homage should be paid to Ayurvedic traditions, we in the West have cottoned on to the fact that topically, coconut oil is incredibly sumptuous on the skin*. The antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties of this tropical oil render if appropriate for an unquantifiable number of uses and so we shan’t be giving you a play by play on all of these today, however, we did wonder if you’d had a pull lately? No, you dirty boys and girls, not that kind of a pull, we’re talking oral hygiene, head out of the gutter please. If you’re unfamiliar with ‘Coconut Pulling’ all you need to know is that it whitens your teeth, freshens your breath, and helps eliminate oral toxins that have accumulated overnight.

So, how do I ‘pull’?

  • Place one tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth and swish it around for 10-20 minutes. This should be done as soon as you wake up. Do not eat or drink anything else beforehand as this will disrupt the process.
  • Once you have finished, whatever you do, do not swallow it as you will be ingesting the ‘pulled’ toxins. Rather, dispose of it in your rubbish bin. We recommend the bin and not the bathroom drain as this can lead to unwanted build-up and eventually a phone call to your plumber.
  • Finally, rinse your mouth with water. For an added extra, if you are not already doing so, give the tongue a bit of a scrape with a tongue scraper.

*For those of you trying to make sense of our subtle yet sexy title, here’s the catch, coconut oil is a wonderful natural lubricant. If you are yet to try this, let us say with confidence that you are missing out. And so, we suggest ditching your current lubricant; which is likely peppered with parabens and other toxic chemicals that can cause hormone imbalances, spur on yeast infections, and impact your reproductive health; and switch to coconut so you can enjoy unadulterated adultery.

We’ll conclude by saying, if your jar of coconut oil is sitting in the back of your cupboard, waiting for her shining moment, get her out and use her on the daily… In more ways than one.
